Opportunities

Every child has the right to an adventure. Life is about grabbing opportunities’ said Bear Grylls when he became the youngest ever Chief Scout in 2009

Castle Morpeth Scout District is a registered charity and is staffed entirely by volunteers. Scouting simply would not exist without the skills and enthusiasm of our many of adult volunteers. Whether you can spare two hours a week or a day a month,
we need instructors, treasurers, administrators and volunteer managers and many others who share our aim of making life better for young people.

You don’t need to know everything about Scouting – we’ll provide full training, induction and ongoing support. What matters is that you are committed, have a sense of humour and a good helping of common sense.

Immediate Vacancies

Group Managers (Morpeth and Ponteland)
An excellent opportunity for someone with track record of people management and development planning. As one of the largest scout groups locally (120 members) this key role provides line management and support to around 20 adult volunteers. Scouting background and knowledge are not essential though the ability to communicate, provide vision whilst motivating and leading adults would be useful.

Assistant Explorer Scout Leader
We urgently need to fill 2 vacancies for Assistant Leaders in our rapidly expanding Explorer Scout Unit of 14-18 year olds.  This is a very active Section and there will be opportunity to be involved in outdoor as well as indoor activities as well as an option to assist with our Duke of Edinburgh programme.

Assistant Leaders
We have exciting opportunities for adults to help with the leadership of our Scout sections for 10-14 year olds and in our.  In the Ponteland, Belsay and Morpeth areas, this is a great chance to join an existing team or start something new – the choice is yours. Timing can be flexible to suit your needs.

Cub Leader and Assistants
We are looking to urgently fill vacancies in our well-established Ponteland group for Leaders and assistant leaders to work with our Cub section (8 – 10  year olds)

Media Manager
This is a great opportunity to establish an effective media management role to publicise the great things we are doing in Scouting and the events we are planning.  This is a fully flexible support role which can be fitted around other commitments.  No prior experience of Scouting is necessary for this role.   This may suit anyone who is wanting to work in this field to gain valuable experience.

Development Team members
We would like to appoint a small team with relevant skills to help us lay down a development and recruitment strategy for the District.  This will be for a fixed term only.  If you think you have skills that would help us, please get in touch.

Other Opportunities Available
We have a wide variety of roles and opportunities for volunteers to suit all ages (18+) and abilities and to suit all types of people.  Whether you only have an hour a month, a day a year or can spare us 2 or three hours a week, we have something that you can help with.  Below are some examples of the types of roles taken on by adult volunteers in Castle Morpeth Scout District. But if you have a genuine interest, we have a role for you!

Leaders
Working in local groups or within the wider District to provide a challenging and varied programme; previous Scouting experience is not required.  Regular commitment is needed, but it can be flexible.

Instructors and people to help run Activities
This is for anyone who can help our leaders on an occasional or regular basis, with or without any specialist skills.  The best thing that anyone can offer is their time.  Specific activities, Duke of Edinburgh award scheme or one-off activities, we will be grateful for what you can offer.

Administrators, Managers, Supporters and Helpers
This is to provide extra support to the leaders and our young people, often behind the scenes; this type of work can include fundraising, book keeping, taking minutes, IT support, catering, helping to maintain buildings, grounds or equipment; the level of commitment required is flexible and dependent on what you can give.
