Apex challenge

Oct 17 For explorers and Network   Yorkshire (Leeds) for Explorers and Network This will be a challenging overnight adventure competition, where your team of four will face a relentless series of activities, while finding your way through this historic estate, avoiding the Apex chasers who are trying to track you down. You could find yourself canoeing across lakes in the dead of night, scaling sheer cliffs, crossing precarious ropes courses high in the trees, and facing tough moonlit mountain bike courses while on the quest for Apex points. With brand new activities, and a top secret new opening obstacle, this is one event you certainly don’t want to miss. Next event should be in Autumn 2014 details to be announced

Theme Park Camp

Sept 2017 : For Explorer and Network Thorpe Park, Surrey Cost £44 (not including travel or food) all day at Thorpe Park (Feel sure that there’s an Alton Towers camp too)


Windsor Great Park, Berkshire  (For support team – camp is for up to 18, not Network) Need to be 18+ for support team, can be used for Gold DofE Residential. Cost £80 for staff /

Endurance 80

Endurance80 is a 24 hour hike covering 80 kilometers / 50 miles cross country centred on Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire. It goes east to Chesham, then northwest to Princes Risborough before returning to Great Missenden. Teams of 3 – 5 members It is open to anyone over the age of 14 from the Scouting and Guiding movements. Some people run it, most people walk it.

Four Inns Walk

For ages 16 up in teams of 3 or 4, at least 2 members must be over 17 – ideal for Network Organised by the Scout Association in Derbyshire, the Four Inns founded in 1957, is a unique competitive event. Approximately 65 km (40 miles) on one day across some of the roughest moorland terrain in Britain. The event takes its name from the four inns along its route – The Isle of Skye (site of), Snake Pass Inn, Nags Head, and Cat & Fiddle. You will be aiming for the satisfaction of completing a tough moorland walk/run and earning a Finisher’s Certificate, and perhaps winning one of the trophies.

The Kinder Extreme Challenge

The Kinder Extreme is approximately 29km aimed at older Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Guides and members of Scout Network. It is a challenge of map reading and stamina in this exciting and rugged area of the Peak District.

The Chiltern Southern 50 Challenge

The Southern 50 Challenge is a tough walk in The Chiltern Hills through Buckinghamshire and surrounding counties, organised by Greater London North Scout County. There are THREE routes to choose from, 50 miles and 50km open to all, and a 30km route for Explorer Scouts only. The event is a test of good orienteering skills as well as physical ability and teamwork and unlike other well-known hikes the routes are different each year and so local knowledge will not be of help as the route will not be disclosed until the day of the event. All teams therefore start with exactly the same chance of winning a trophy.

Three Towers Hike

The Three Towers Hike is a downland competition hike. That means you walk it and are competing against other hikers across open country – although many people do it just for fun or for the challenge. The hike covers footpaths in West Berkshire and South Oxfordshire, straddling the Ridgeway and Thames. There are a number of different events, each with different route lengths for different age ranges. The classic hike is about 70km – depending on which footpaths you take. The Classic hike is open to just about absolutely anyone 16 years and older. This is ideal for older Explorer Scouts and Ranger Guides, members of the Scout Network, Scout Active Support or adult leaders, helpers and supporters. It is also idea for cadet units, sports clubs etc
