Clean water and sight

10 June 2014

Two of the most important  things in anyone’s life, but sadly missing in many parts of the world- Ponteland Scouts played their part in trying to remedy this by supporting and raising money for 2 charities and their efforts were boosted on Sunday will some great fundraising at Ponteland’s Party-in-the-Park.

2014-06-08 15.18.32The Beaver Scouts had a toy sale to supporting the Friends of Mandritsra Trust which funds the work of an eye department in the Good News Hospital in Madritsara, Madagascar – where Ponteland Optometrisit Vicky Hopley is now working. it is affectionately referred to by the staff, as an amazing hospital and patients travel for 2 or 3 days to get there.

The Scouts have been raising money for the Safe Water Trust, funding the purchase of water filters to be taken to Tanzania, a project which two of the Scout dads are involved with.  Their fundraising efforts were boosted byt a brilliant £250 on Sunday thanks to Ponteland’s generosity, which is enough to buy a water filter to give clean water for a whole community.

2014-06-08 15.16.16And the Group’s cake stall (delicious !) contributed its proceeds equally to the two charities.  This was a fantastic effort from all the group.
