29 May 2014

aerial photoOver the bank holiday weekend, about 150 Cubs, Scouts and Explorers from 4th Morpeth, 6th Morpeth, 1st Ponteland and Morpeth Explorer Unit joined with 1500 other young people and 400 adult volunteers for the Northumberland County Circus Marra Camp at Causey Park.  Beavers joined the camp for one of the days

On offer were circus skills training, and activities including, abseiling, climbing, archery, shooting, quad bikes, water slides, crafts, stunt bikes, zorbing as well as fairground rides and inflatables.  Scouts could even host their own show on the camp’s radio station, Radio Marra and they could contribute to the daily newspaper “The Big Top”.  There were discos, shows and even a Marra’s Got Talent competition.  Explorers got their own water activities day at Druridge Bay with Raft racing, kayaking and surfing on offer.

It was a great adventurous weekend and even the heavy rain on Saturday couldn’t dampen the spirits – mud puddles seemed to provide an additional activity, and 4th Morpeth even ended up with a water feature in their camp !!

Circus Marra ‘left town’ on Monday, and young people and adults made their way home to hot baths and beds, while washing machines worked overtime!!   And from the District Commissioner: “A great big thanks to all the adults from Castle Morpeth District who helped with leading, activities, catering, putting up (and taking down) tents, transport and many other aspects – you all helped to make the camp a big success.
